Austria - Hallstatt - Ancestors Skulls

Hallstatt is a small village of Austria. With about a thousand habitants this place is like a little paradise in the shores of the lake Hallstatter. Being a small town that has no space to expand because of the surrounding mountains even the cemetery has suffer from lack of space. So they have found a solution in order to give all their ancestors a proper burrial. After a period of 20 to 30 years they exume the grave, grab the skulls and bones and clean them. After this treatment the remains are stacked in a house near the cemetery called " Bone House".

Then all the skulls are painted with decorations and names written in the foreheads.
